I am a senior in high school; I turn 18 in December. I have been playing volleyball since 6th grade, but I also used to play basketball and softball. However, I decided to focus on volleyball and quit. Soft all was always on and off for me. I have 5 siblings (1 brother and 2 sisters on my dad’s side; 2 brothers on my mom’s side), and I am the oldest. Both brothers on my mom’s side play basketball, and I manage the boys’ varsity basketball team that one of them plays on. I like to hang out with my friends, shop, cook/bake, and watch movies outside of sports and training.
Volleyball
I am a senior volleyball player. I play utility for my school, but I am being recruited as a defensive specialist/libero. My biggest athletic achievement this year is recovering from tendinitis in both of my knees and my right shoulder and being able to bounce back. This event shows that I am more than my mind tries to tell me. I struggle with the mental side of sports far more than I do with the physical aspect, and I just want to prove to myself and the world what I can do. I go to Kickapoo Area High School in Viola, WI. It is a very small, close-knit community as everyone knows everyone. However, I live in Richland Center, WI. I used to go to school in Richland Center, so I know a lot of kids and teachers and parents. I have also lived in Richland Center my whole life, my mom is friends with people in town, same with my dad.
I am a in a low-income family, and it is sometimes hard to get these opportunities and pursue them. I see volleyball in my future, and me and mom are doing everything in our power to save and raise money for these trips. I just need help, and I have learned over the years it is not a bad thing to ask.
